Freedom from reac ons of past karmic ac vi es
One should be in a mindset to sacrifice everything for the good will of Lord
Krishna. All prescribed du es and services should be done without claiming
proprietorship over the results. Lord Krishna is the ul mate proprietor and
we are his eternal servants. The example is given of a cashier or bank teller
who receives the cash box at the beginning of the business day and makes
many entries and disbursements. At the end of the day, the bank teller tallies
up all the transac ons and returns the cash box with the balanced total. If
the bank teller performed his du es honestly, he will receive his salary at the
end of the month. But if he thinks that the money in the cash box belonged
to him and expropriated it, he is prosecuted as a thief.

they have.” (Bg 9.22) This verse has a profound meaning. What is the one
thing that all people lack in this world? It is pure and unadulterated love for
God expressed by rendering service to Him favorably and without desire for
material profit or gain. Such service should be free of the desire for self-
indulgence and free of philosophical specula on. Pure devo onal service is
performed with the unique purpose of pleasing Krishna without any expecta-
on of a return.
When misguided persons approach the Lord and pray for material benefits to
improve their sense gra fica on, the Lord will confer material benefits to the
supplicant, but in the end these material blessings only serve to entangle the
