meant for sa sfying our senses. If we try to sa sfy the senses of Govinda,
however, then automa cally our own senses are sa sfied. Materially, every-
one wants to sa sfy his senses, and he wants God to be the order supplier
for such sa sfac on. The Lord will sa sfy the senses of the living en es as
much as they deserve, but not to the extent that they may covet. But when
one takes the opposite way – namely, when one tries to sa sfy the senses of
Govinda without desiring to sa sfy one’s own senses – then by the grace of
Govinda all desires of the living en ty are sa sfied.” (Bg 1.32-35)
The devotee understands that the essence of the Bhagavad-gita wisdom is
full surrender to Lord Krishna by steady engagement in devo onal service.
Progressively as the devotee surrenders, Krishna provides the intelligence to
make the right decisions, and to become completely free from all kinds of
materialis c endeavors.
Bhak vedanta Swami Prabhupada gives special importance to this essen al
teaching of Krishna.
“According to the devo onal process, one should simply accept such reli-
gious principles that will lead ul mately to the devo onal service of the
Lord. One may perform a par cular occupa onal duty according to his posi-
on in the social order, but if by execu ng his duty one does not come to the
point of Kṛiṣhṇa consciousness, all his ac vi es are in vain. Anything that
does not lead to the perfec onal stage of Kṛiṣhṇa consciousness should be
avoided. One should be confident that in all circumstances Kṛiṣhṇa will pro-
tect him from all difficul es. There is no need of thinking how one should
keep the body and soul together. Kṛiṣhṇa will see to that. One should always
think himself helpless and should consider Kṛiṣhṇa the only basis for his pro-
gress in life. As soon as one seriously engages himself in devo onal service
to the Lord in full Kṛiṣhṇa consciousness, at once he becomes freed from all
contamina on of material nature. There are different processes of religion
and purificatory processes by cul va on of knowledge, medita on in the
mys c yoga system, etc., but one who surrenders unto Kṛiṣhṇa does not
have to execute so many methods. That simple surrender unto Kṛiṣhṇa will
save him from unnecessarily was ng me. One can thus make all progress at
once and be freed from all sinful reac ons.” (Bg 18.66 purport)
