ca on of body and mind, the finer ssues in the brain become sanc fied,
thus revi lizing the memory, which enables one to concentrate on achieving
libera on from the cycle of birth and death without distrac on or discour-
agement. Thus one becomes Krishna Conscious and successfully fulfills the
mission of human life – to please God with love and devo on and a ain eter-
nal associa on and service for Krishna and devotees. The pure devotee does
not desire libera on. His only ardent desire is to con nue devo onal service
in the associa on of devotees in the material or spiritual worlds.
The necessity for all humanity is to enter the path of devo on and develop
love for God. Krishna promises that He will care for His sincere servants be-
cause He is a racted by their pure devo on. When all the dark desires of the
devotee are purified and replaced with the pure desires to please the Lord,
he will act only for the sa sfac on of the Lord. At that stage of spiritual de-
velopment, the sincere devotee does not have to worry about obtaining the
necessi es of life. Lord Krishna will provide everything necessary for the dev-
otee to con nue his service uninterruptedly.
Lakṣmi devi addresses Lord Hayagriva (an incarna on of Krishna), “My dear
Lord, You automa cally fulfill all the desires of a woman who worships Your
lotus feet in pure love. However, if a woman worships Your lotus feet for a
par cular purpose, You also quickly fulfill her desires, but in the end she be-
comes broken-hearted and laments. Therefore one need not worship Your
lotus feet for some material benefit.” (SB 5.18.21)
Laksmi devi indicates that praying to the Lord for material benefits may have
a short term benefit. But in the long run all material assets will deteriorate
and eventually be lost. Their temporary possession and inevitable loss results
in frustra on and despair. Laksmi devi empha cally declares that everyone
should worship the Lord with pure love without any trace of a personal ma-
terial desire. Then all the desires of his pure devotee are automa cally ful-
filled because he only desires to please the Lord. Bhak vedanta Swami Prab-
hupada confirms this precious understanding. “Arjuna has addressed Lord
Krishna as Govinda because Krishna is the object of all pleasures for cows
and the senses. By using this significant word, Arjuna indicates that Krishna
should understand what will sa sfy Arjuna’s senses. But Govinda is not
