This is the essence of the teachings of Bhagavad-gītā. By studying Bhagavad-
gītā, one can become a soul completely surrendered to the Supreme Lord
and engage himself in pure devo onal service. As the Lord takes charge, one
becomes completely free from all kinds of materialis c endeavors.”(Bg 10.11
purport)
Gradually the devotee’s material needs are diminished and the Lord will easi-
ly provide whatever is necessary to maintain His devotee in steady devo on-
al service. Thus the devotee becomes free of material anxiety and enjoys the
opulence of simple living and high thinking. Such a life is sustainable and in-
creasingly full of peace and loving rela onships.
Regulated spiritual ac vi es of devo on a racts the a en on of
Krishna
When nature acts in a predictable way that is favorable for the maintenance
of human beings, life becomes a pleasure and mankind’s crea ve tendencies
awaken. Krishna guarantees this coopera on of nature with mankind. He
says, “All living bodies subsist on food grains, which are produced from rains.
Rains are produced by performance of yajña (sacrifice), and yajña is born of
prescribed du es.) (Bg 3.14) This important verse explains the facts of life.
Man is dependent completely on the mercy of God whether he realizes it or
not.
Bhak vedanta Swami Prabhupada writes, “Food grains or vegetables are fac-
tually eatables. The human being eats different kinds of food grains, vegeta-
bles, fruits, etc., and the animals eat the refuse of the food grains and vege-
tables, grass, plants, etc. Human beings who are accustomed to ea ng meat
and flesh must also depend on the produc on of vegeta on in order to eat
the animals. Therefore, ul mately, we have to depend on the produc on of
the field and not on the produc on of big factories. The field produc on is
due to sufficient rain from the sky, and such rains are controlled by demigods
like Indra, sun, moon, etc., and they are all servants of the Lord. The Lord can
be sa sfied by sacrifices; therefore, one who cannot perform them will find
himself in scarcity – that is the law of nature. Yajna, specifically the samkirta-
na-yajna prescribed for this age, must therefore be performed to save us at
least from scarcity of food supply.” (Bg 3.14 purport)
