rotate and cover space, and space is calculated in terms of atoms. Each
planet has its par cular orbit for rota ng, in which it moves without
devia on, and similarly the sun has its orbit. The complete calcula on
of the me of crea on, maintenance and dissolu on, measured in
terms of the circula on of the total planetary systems un l the end of
crea on, is known as the supreme kāla.” (SB 3.2.4 – purport)
In the Bhagavad‐gita Lord Krishna describes me:
a-Kalah kalayatam aham – “among subduers I am me” (Bg 10.30)
b- “O son of Kun , at the end of the millennium all material manifesta-
ons enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another millennium,
by My potency, I create them again.” (Bg 9.7)
“The crea on, maintenance and annihila on of this material cosmic
manifesta on are completely dependent on the supreme will of the
Personality of Godhead. “At the end of the millennium” means at the
death of Brahmā. Brahmā lives for one hundred years, and his one day
is calculated at 4,300,000,000 of our earthly years. His night is of the
same dura on. His month consists of thirty such days and nights, and
his year of twelve months. A er one hundred such years, when Brahmā
dies, the devasta on or annihila on takes place; this means that the
energy manifested by the Supreme Lord is again wound up in Himself.
Then again, when there is a need to manifest the cosmic world, it is
done by His will. Bahu syām: “Although I am one, I shall become many.”
This is the Vedic aphorism (Chāndogya Upaniṣad 6.2.3). He expands
Himself in this material energy, and the whole cosmic manifesta on
again takes place.” (Bg 9.7 – purport)
Brahma, the first and most evolved being in the material universe, is
the mental crea on of Lord Krishna. Brahma’s soul is eternal just as the
souls of all living en es. He is placed in the material world in an ex-
cep onal material body with four heads and endowed by Lord Krishna
with superior intelligence and knowledge to perform the secondary
crea on of the material world. Lord Krishna first creates the material
nature and then Brahma expands it and populates it with living en es
entrapped in 8.4 million species with different bodies.
