P. 61

“Material nature is not independent. She is ac ng under the direc ons
of the Supreme Lord. As Lord Kṛṣṇa says, mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛ ḥ
sūyate sa-carācaram: ‘This material nature is working under My direc-
on.’ When we see wonderful things happening in the cosmic nature,
we should know that behind this cosmic manifesta on there is a con-
troller. Nothing could be manifested without being controlled. It is
childish not to consider the controller. For instance, a child may think
that an automobile is quite wonderful to be able to run without a
horse or other animal pulling it, but a sane man knows the nature of
the automobile’s engineering arrangement. He always knows that be-
hind the machinery there is a man, a driver. Similarly, the Supreme
Lord is the driver under whose direc on everything is working.” (Bg –
      Introduc on)

“Owing to ignorance, one does not know that this material world is a
miserable place where there are dangers at every step. Out of igno-
rance only, less intelligent persons try to adjust to the situa on by frui-
ve ac vi es, thinking that the resultant ac ons will make them hap-
py. They do not know that no kind of material body anywhere within
the universe can give life without miseries. The miseries of life, namely
birth, death, old age and diseases, are present everywhere within the
material world.” (Bg 2.51 – purport)

ā‐brahma‐bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvar no ’rjuna
mām upetya tu kaunteya / punar janma na vidyate

“From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all
are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But
one who a ains to My abode, O son of Kun , never takes birth again”.
      (Bg 8.16)

                  kārya‐kāraṇa‐kartṛtve / hetuḥ prakṛ r ucyate
puruṣaḥ sukha‐duḥkhānāṁ / bhoktṛtve hetur ucyate

“Nature is said to be the cause of all material causes and effects,
whereas the living en ty is the cause of the various sufferings and en-
      joyments in this world.”
      (Bg 13.21)
