varnasrama system. On the failure of such varnasrama-
dharma, naturally the women become free to act and mix
with men, and thus adultery is indulged in at the risk of
unwanted population. Irresponsible men also provoke
adultery in society, and thus unwanted children flood the
human race at the risk of war and pestilence.”

There are many so-called “politically incorrect” statements
in this wonderful purport by Srila Prabhupada. Political
correctness and incorrectness has been defined by
mundane scholars, media moguls and politicians for their
own purposes.

One of the participants in the class began to howl. She was
a new member of the temple hearing this purport for the
first time. She couldn’t control her outrage at the words of
Srila Prabhupada. There ensued a long harangue by her.
She characterized Srila Prabhupada’s words as typical male
chauvinistic disparagement of women. She exclaimed she
would not be part of a movement that espoused such false
concepts of women. She was university trained and very
sensitive to women’s issues. When her monolog finally
calmed down I began to explain in a calm and straight-
forward way what Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad-gita As It
Is says. She interpreted the words because of her university
education to mean the opposite of what they really said.
