P. 51
I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, whose effulgence is the source of the nondifferentiated Brahman
mentioned in the Upaniṣads, being differentiated from the infinity of glories of the mundane universe appears
as the indivisible, infinite, limitless, truth. (BS 5.40)
Because the Mayavadis reject the personal form of Lord Krishna, His transcendental body (sat-cit-ananda
vigraha – BS 5.1), they never attain the perfection of love of God. Lord Krishna says:
avyaktaṁ vyaktim āpannaṁ / manyante mām abuddhayaḥ
paraṁ bhāvam ajānanto / mamāvyayam anuttamam
Unintelligent men, who do not know Me perfectly, think that I, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, was
impersonal before and have now assumed this personality. Due to their small knowledge, they do not know My
higher nature, which is imperishable and supreme. (Bg 7. 24)
Brahma also confirms that Lord Krishna and His expansions cannot be understood by study of Vedic literatures
(vedesu durlabham BS 5.33). It is only by the mercy of the Supreme Lord that one can understand Him:
athāpi te deva padāmbuja-dvaya- / prasāda-leśānugṛhīta eva hi
jānāti tattvaṁ bhagavan-mahimno / na cānya eko ’pi ciraṁ vicinvan
My Lord, if one is favored by even a slight trace of the mercy of Your lotus feet, he can understand the greatness
of Your personality. But those who speculate to understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead are unable to
know You, even though they continue to study the Vedas for many years. (SB 10.14.29)
Bhaktivedanta Swami explains:
One cannot understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, or His form, quality or name simply by
mental speculation or by discussing Vedic literature. One must understand Him by devotional service. When
one is fully engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, beginning by chanting the mahā-mantra – Hare Kṛṣṇa,
Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare – then only can one
understand the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Nondevotee impersonalists think that Kṛṣṇa has a body made
of this material nature and that all His activities, His form and everything are māyā. These impersonalists are
known as Māyāvādīs. They do not know the ultimate truth. (Bg 7.24 – purport)
The most difficult hurdles to overcome are the misconceptions and false claims made by the Mayavadi
philosophers, the kevala advaitins (the absolute oneness believers) who claim that the absolute truth is
homogenous oneness with no varieties or individual personalities.
This pastime of Lord Brahma proves that the Mayavadis are misleaders and grossly misrepresent the Vedic
philosophy. Brahma realized that all the varied forms of cows, boys and calves transformed into Vishnu
forms were not the production of Lord Krishna’s mystic powers. They were the real Vishnu expansions of Lord
Krishna that are not different than the Lord. When the sun is reflected in many waterpots at noontime, the
reflections are not the sun. The expansions of Krishna that Brahma saw were actual Vishnu expansions with the
full potency of the Lord. They were not mere reflections or a magic show.
