work. Such a person becomes entangled by karmic reac ons. Krishna
explains:
“The steadily devoted soul a ains unadulterated peace because he
offers the result of all ac vi es to Me; whereas a person who is not in
union with the Divine, who is greedy for the fruits of his labor, be-
comes entangled.” (Bg 5.12)
There are five factors to consider to every ac on or undertaking. They
are:
1-the place which means the material body and the par cular environ-
ment where the ac on takes place
2-the senses of the body including the mind of the person are
3-the person or the soul in the body is the knower and the doer, who
may act under the illusory state of false ego or he may be spiritually
enlightened
4-the different kinds of endeavors – for every ac on there is a differ-
ent endeavor
5-the Supersoul, Lord Krishna, is the supercause – all ac vi es depend
on the will of the Lord
A person engaged in ac vity with the goal of profit for enjoying sense
gra fica on begins with an expecta on of success, but failure is al-
ways a possibility. There is no absolute certainty for the outcome of
the endeavor. This incer tude is a cause of anxiety due to the duality
of the result such as success or failure, happiness or distress, riches or
poverty, fame or infamy, etc. Everyone in materialis c life func ons
with this concep on of duality. Thus a person entangled in profit cal-
cula on for sense gra fica on cannot have peace of mind due to anxi-
ety about the future result.
Most people refuse to accept personal responsibility for failure. Due to
extreme frustra on, they may even blame God for their failure. Hu-
