Cow dung is used as a fuel for cooking. It can be mixed with straw and clay to
build houses and other structures. It is a great fer lizer for crops. The smoke
from burning cow dung will keep mosquitoes away. Pouring ghee on a cow
dung fire will release oxygen into the atmosphere.
Everything coming from a cow is beneficial whether the cow is alive or dead.
The hide is used to make a drum. The intes nes can be used to carry water,
ect.
Bhak vedanta has summarized the absolutely essen al need to protect and
respect brahmanas and cows for the well-being and peace of society. He
writes,
"Human society without brahminical culture is animal society. We offer our
obeisances to the Lord, namo brahmanya devaya go Brahmana hitaya ca.
Krishna is first of all interested to see whether in the society the Brahmana
and the cow is properly respected. Namo brahmanya devaya go Brahmana
hitaya ca. His first business to see that the Brahmana and cow is being
properly honored. Then jagat dhitaya. Then automa cally the whole world
will be peaceful. This secret of success they do not know. Nobody is pre-
pared to become Brahmana, and so far cow protec on is concerned, it is in
the oblivion. This is the whole world posi on. Therefore, it is a chao c condi-
on. It must be, because this is animal society. When these two things are
neglected, it is animal society, and then other animal quali es and parapher-
nalia follow.” (Srila Prabhupada lecture, SB 5.5.10 Vrindabana, November 10,
1976)
