Page 75 - THE FOURTH DIMENSION
P. 75

The purusa-avataras expanded from Lord Krishna namely - Maha Vishnu, Garbhodaksayi Vishnu and
Kishirodaysayi Vishnu, are the overseers and directors of the entire material creation and all the entrapped
living entities. By understanding the the functions of the purusa avataras, one can free himself of the
entanglement by the 24 material elements of material nature. For example, if you see a beautiful object or
person you may develop attachment. However, if you disassemble the object or intellectually dissect the
object or person into the constituent parts, at some point you will lose your attachment. Every object and all
material bodies are constituted by the 24 material elements. When separated into its parts one will lose the
        original attraction.

The material creation in its entirety (called virat in Sanskrit), Hiranyagarbha (the unseen soul of everything)
and the cause of everything (karana) refer to the three purusa avaataras mentioned above. Lord Krishna is
above these expansions of His. His transcendental position in the fourth dimension is not influenced by the 24
elements, the activities of the conditioned souls or the cause and effect of the material world.
From Lord Krishna’s position in the fourth dimension, the differences that result from cause and effect in the
material world are not experienced. The laws of material nature and their contaminating effects do not affect
Lord Krishna or His avatara expansions. Cause and effect are experienced only in the material world where the
temporary material bodies of living entities are going through the stages of birth, existence, growing, giving off
by-products, dwindling and dying. The soul of the living entity and of God is transcendental to these six stages
of material existence. Yet, the living entities contaminated by the modes of nature believe they are the
material body. Thus they suffer along with the body by virtue of the false ego and misunderstanding. Material
education is indoctrination by false concepts, philosophies, facts and misrepresentations of reality.

The following verses (SB 7.7.25-26-27-28) spoken by Prahlad Maharaja when he was only five years old explain
that by purification of the intelligence one can perceive the presence of the eternal soul in the body along
with the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the the Paramatma, the Supersoul, the witness of all activities of
living entities and the source of intelligence. However, due to the indoctrination of false concepts taught in
institutions of mundane knowledge by materialistic scholars, scientists, politicians, philosophers and by
mundane family members and atheistic friends, people are duped to identify with the temporary body and
experience this illusory identification in subtle and gross forms. This happens in three states of material
consciousness described as wakefulness (jagrata), dreaming (svapna) and deep sleep (susuptam).
Wakefulness is under the influence of the mode of goodness, dreams from the mode of passion and deep
dreamless sleep from the mode of ignorance. In these three states one exists as a witness to the functions of
illusion similar to a person who sees a movie for entertainment. The fourth state of consciousness called
Turiya or spiritual Krishna Consciousness pervades the first three and is transcendental to them, but remains
covered by the influence of the three modes. With the help of bona fided spiritual masters, one can be
liberated from all states of illusory influence and enter the fourth dimension of ultimate reality.

buddher jāgaraṇaṁ svapnaḥ / suṣuptir iti vṛttayaḥ
tā yenaivānubhūyante / so ’dhyakṣaḥ puruṣaḥ paraḥ

Intelligence can be perceived in three states of activity — wakefulness, dreaming and deep sleep. The
person who perceives these three is to be considered the original master, the ruler, the Supreme Personality
        of Godhead. (SB 7.7.25)
