on fresh grasses. In the evening, the cows would
come back to be milked. Many days passed without a
drop of milk coming from the special cow purchased
from Lakshmi devi. The cow had a small calf, but
her udder remained empty. The queen complained
to the cowherd man. “Why is there no milk from
this fine cow? We paid a considerable sum for this
wonderful cow.” She looked suspiciously at the
cowherd man and asked. “Are you drinking her milk?
Are you stealing it?” He said, “No, no! I am not.! I am
an honest man! I would never do such a thing.” The
queen replied, “If tomorrow, there is no milk, then I
know you are a thief! Then you will be punished with
              your life.”

At a certain time each day, during the grazing of the
cows, the cowherd man would take a nap. He would
sleep under a tree. When he slept, the special cow
would hurry to the anthill and stand over it with
her udder. She would induce herself to pour down
her nectar-like milk to nourish Srinivasa. The Lord
accepted the loving offering of the cow by opening
His mouth so that the milk would drop right into His
mouth for his daily repast. The cow was Brahma who
was a very dedicated devotee of the Lord.
