all over the universes by playing on His flute. (64) He
has a wonderful excellence of beauty which cannot
be rivaled anywhere in the creation. Adding to the
list these four exceptional qualities of Kṛṣṇa, it is to be
understood that the aggregate number of qualities
of Krishna is sixtyfour.” (NOD chapter 21).
Thus, Lord Krishna in His original two armed form
of Syamasundar holding the flute has a particular
sweetness that is not manifest in Narayana or Vishnu.
Five relationships for appreciating
Krishna’s sweetness
Another way to understand the degrees of
sweetness of relationship with Lord Krishna and
His expansions is by understanding the five types
of intimate relationship with the Lord. These are
called the five primary rasas or sweet mellows of
relationship with the Lord. They are santa (neutral),
dasya (service), sakya(friendship), vatsalya(parental)
and madurya(conjugal). Rasa can more specifically
be understood as the various feelings of happiness
derived from performing acts of devotion meant to
please Lord Krishna or His expansions.
One must rise to the spiritual level of pure goodness
when one is cleansed of all material contamination.
