that exists. There is nothing in the universe that does not belong to either the parā or the aparā
prakṛti; therefore, everything is the property of the Supreme Being.” (Iso Mantra One – purport)
Lord Krishna is the origin of everything material and spiritual. (Bg 10.8) He clearly states that the entire material
nature is controlled by Him:
mayādhyakṣeṇa prakṛtiḥ / sūyate sa-carācaram
hetunānena kaunteya / jagad viparivartate
“This material nature, which is one of My energies, is working under My direction, O son of Kuntī, producing all
moving and nonmoving beings. Under its rule this manifestation is created and annihilated again and again.”
(Bg 9.10)
The Lord is the creator, owner and controlled of the entire material creation. Yet, He remains aloof and
unaffected by it. He is also the seed giving father of all creatures. But He is not responsible for the entanglement
of the living entities by the laws of karma. This is due to their misuse of the limited free will accorded to them
by the Lord. He has spoken the Bhagavad-gita to help all souls suffering in the material world to free themselves
from birth and death and return to their original abode in the spiritual world.
Truth #3- Krishna is the benefactor and well-wisher of all living entities.
Lord Krishna is the ultimate benefactor. This fact is stressed by the following verse from the Katha Upanisad:
nityo nityānāṁ cetanaś cetanānām / eko bahūnāṁ yo vidadhāti kāmān
tam ātma-sthaṁ ye ’nupaśyanti dhīrās / teṣāṁ śāntiḥ śāśvatī netareṣām
The Supreme Lord is eternal and the living entities are eternal. The Supreme Lord is cognizant and the living
entities are cognizant. The difference is that the Supreme Lord is supplying all the necessities of life for the many
other living entities. (Kaṭha Upaniṣad 2.2.13)
Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, maintains the innumerable living entities according to their
individual activities and the karma attributed to them. As stated above in the Isopanisad, the Lord provides the
minimum requirements for each living entity which are set aside as a quota. One who is satisfied with what the
Lord provides and does not strive for more material facilities than minimally required, uses whatever extra there
is in the service of the Lord. By such unselfish acts of devotion, one is freed from the cycle of karma in this world
and one can attain permanent peace due to living without committing sinful acts.
The Lord not only provides sustenance to all living beings, He also reveals Himself progressively as His devotee
surrenders unto Him.
ye yathā māṁ prapadyante / tāṁs tathaiva bhajāmy aham
mama vartmānuvartante / manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ
“As all surrender unto Me, I reward them accordingly. Everyone follows My path in all respects, O son of Pṛthā.”
(Bg 4.11)
The Lord reveals himself to the sincere devotee in proportion to his efforts to satisfy Him only. The more the
devotee develops love for the Lord the more Krishna reveals Himself. Spiritual knowledge is not an academic
process. It is revealed by the Lord progressively as the devotee sincerely serves the Lord.
